“Over the span of a lifetime of painting, my work has consistently traveled the tensions between the realms of matter and spirit.

The journey has been varied, recorded in blocks of time or in periods of my life when I often feel poised on the precipice of an awakening, a discovery. Often, these periods have spanned years during which a body of creative work is generated. Any period of creative output deepens my awakening and personal growth. I discovered years ago that I must pierce through a kind of unnavigable fog to gain clarity, or it will be carried into the studio unconsciously.

Painting begets a form of meditation. Isolated within the whiteness of the studio space, I strive to free the parts of myself that I hold onto for various reasons. Usually, these are ghosts from the past or a collective cosmic interference that finds its way into my consciousness, shaping my movements, and limiting my inspiration. My capable mind can still produce results on the canvas, but they feel staid or stylized. Distractions lead to mundane conclusions that seem limited only to themselves for inspiration.

Through dedication, discipline, and quieting the noise of my mind, I learn to respond in the moment by listening to the eternal voice that calls on my mind and heart to join in unity with my instinctive self, the child within. From that unity, a visual language is formed that speaks from a deep place within me. It is a language that is discernible by all and structured in the expressive interplay of harmony and tension in space. It is the core struggle of life itself.

Within these life forces, my true spirit is realized. I open to release myself into my own expression. I beckon this veiled other world into a visual reflection of those tensions. In that spaciousness, energy flows, and possibilities are boundless. I am only limited by my own ability to walk an energetic tightrope. The unity of spirit provides the delicate balance to create that space. The tightrope vanishes and I move freely through space, recording my experiences onto the canvas. “
